Tip Tite

12 Gram Stick – Hot Melt Adhesive

Overview: Tip-Tite is a hot melt adhesive that is specially designed for adhering metal and wood parts. DO NOT use on any parts that should not have high heat exposure. Tip-Tite creates an elastic, waterproof bond that is heat reversible for easy removal or adjustment. It is durable and resistant to impacts and shocks. Tip-Tite is fully cured when it has cooled to room temperature. Tip-Tite becomes a liquid at approximately 350 degrees F or 177 degrees C. Be careful to prevent burns.

Tools Required

Parts to be attached, alcohol burner or torch, pliers, denatured alcohol.

Application Method

Parts to be glued need to be cleaned with denatured alcohol. Remove any burs, using a file if necessary. Clean parts with denatured alcohol, using a cotton swab if necessary, making sure to use as many moist swabs as needed in order to remove all of the dirt and residue from the parts. To adhere a metal part to wood, heat the metal part and the Tip-Tite stick over the alcohol burner and then rub the metal part onto the Tip-Tite stick to coat it and quickly put the parts together, and hold in place until the adhesive cools completely. For wood to wood adhesion, heat the Tip-Tite to the point of dripping and apply quickly to both pieces of wood and stick the parts together and hold until cured. For metal to metal adhesion heat both pieces of metal and the Tip-Tite stick, quickly applying the Tip-Tite to both pieces and stick together, holding until fully cured. Parts can be cooled in water to set the Tip-Tite quickly.

Tip-Tite Usage

Metal Insert into Other Metal Piece

Wearing gloves is recommended.

To install, hold the metal piece being inserted with pliers. Heat using an alcohol burner, a Bunsen burner or a butane lighter. Once the metal piece is hot, allow Tip-Tite to melt around the outside. Lightly heat the other metal part and then insert first metal piece. Wipe off residue if desired. Stand on end with the inserted part seated down into receiving melt part. Allow to cool.

Metal Piece into Wooden Piece

Heat Tip-Tite over an open flame. Let drip into the portion of the wood receiving the metal piece. Heat metal piece until hot enough to melt Tip-Tite. Push metal piece into cavity of wooden piece. Hold in place and chill with cold wet cloth if needed. The adhesive bond is complete when Tip-Tite is thoroughly cooled.

Wood to Wood Adhesion

Remove dust or debris from wood surfaces, slightly roughing them. Heat Tip-Tite over an open flame and dripping into the receiving wood cavity. Quickly install wood insert into the receiving piece. If desired, heat Tip-Tite and allow to drip around edge of inserted wood.

Cleaning, Set-up and Fine Adjustments with Tip-Tite

Excess Tip-Tite can be carefully removed by scoring and lifting with a sharp blade. The adhesive bond is complete when Tip-Tite is thoroughly cooled. A stronger bond is created with a slightly thicker layer of Tip-Tite. Tip-Tite can be heat reversed using an industrial heat gun to soften the adhesive enabling adjustments.

Most Frequent Problems

If Tip-Tite is not heated to a high enough temperature, it will not adequately soften to coat the surface of your parts. This will result in an incomplete and weakened bond.

If a heat source other than the alcohol burner is used, it will provide inconsistent heat which will result in areas on the surface of the parts that are not properly coated in hot melt. This will cause weakening of the bond. Using a candle or lighter may result in carbon residue depositing on the hot melt or the parts. The carbon residue acts as a barrier between the hot melt and the parts which will result in an incomplete bond.

Overview: USA Fishing Supply Platinum is the strongest solvent-based glue on the market. This product stays flexible when cured and will not shatter like some instant glues. This product has many uses, but it mostly used to adhere eyes to fishing poles.
